Electronic Counter Measures System (ECM)
Problem
Successful operation of the ECM system in a jet fighter is essential to the safety of the pilot and plane, and completion of the mission. The environment in the nose cone of a fighter jet where the ECM is located causes ordinary hard disk and DAT drives to fail. Even environmentally hardened disk drives do not provide the durability of a solid state storage system.
Application
The ECM system mounts in the nose cone of an advanced fighter jet and is subjected to shock, vibration and temperature extremes.
Solution
Adtron delivered a 3.5" flash-based drive that operates without failure through the environmental extremes of this application. Through a certified testing laboratory, Adtron has successfully completed shock and vibration testing to levels defined for operation in an F15 fighter jet and Sikorsky helicopter.
Benefits
The extreme durability, high capacity and performance of the Adtron solid state storage system improves safety and reduces cost of ownership by eliminating the highest failure rate device in the system. The calculated cost of a failed mission or downed plane far exceeds the cost to replace a fragile hard disk drive with a solid state storage system.
