Adtron Ships More Compact and Higher Performance 2.5-inch Flash Disks
Next Generation Design Yields Higher Packaging Densities
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Embedded Systems Conference) - March 8, 2005 - Adtron, an industry leader in delivering smart data storage solutions to the industrial marketplace, is now shipping a more compact, higher capacity and higher performance version of its 2.5-inch IDE and SATA Flashpak™ flash disks. The evolution of Adtron ArrayPro™ technology delivers these improvements and a new lower OEM pricing. This design generation is yielding higher packaging densities and allowing 2.5-inch SATA drives of 8GBytes with 7.7mm height.
"Advances in the Adtron ArrayPro technology allows Adtron Flashpak devices to significantly outperform existing flash disk products" stated Alan Fitzgerald. "Our next gen flash disk architecture provides the foundation for performance and capacity enhancements for the next several years. Today we see sustained rates of 80 MBytes/sec in SATA and IDE flash disks, moving to over 100 MBytes/sec in the next year." Targeted for defense and industrial applications, flash disks with exceptional performance and capacity points deliver extreme reliability and durability that cannot be achieved with rotating hard disks or tape drives."
Adtron ArrayPro technology delivers parallel flash array processing with additional capacity and performance improvements. In the 2.5-inch family, a 370% capacity improvement is achieved with capacities increasing to a maximum of 56 GBytes from 12 GBytes just 1 year ago. Performance capabilities improve by 570% at the high end of the capacity spectrum with sustained read/write rates at 80 MBytes per second, in comparison to 12 MB/sec just 1 year ago. "With the combination of new flash geometries, increased market demand, and media price improvements, Adtron's newest generation of 2.5-inch flash disk pricing has improved by 25 - 35%," stated Alan Fitzgerald. "Markets that previously objected to flash disk implementations because of high prices and inadequate performance have new opportunities to look at faster drives with higher capacities at an improved market price."
The SATA and IDE Flashpak flash disks are equipped with Adtron EraSure™ technology for a complete suite of data security and secure erase features that include clear and sanitize capabilities. Optional destroy, write protection and password protection features are also available. Both the A25FB and I25FB flash disks support either commercial (0 to 70 degrees C) or industrial (-40 to 85 degrees C) temperatures.
Shipments of 2.5-inch flash disks in the new packaging began in February 2005. Quantity pricing for an 8 GByte A25FB flash drive with a industrial temperature rating is $3,072. For more information, contact Adtron Sales at 602-735-0300 or by e-mail at sales@adtron.com.
